Research Background & Current Projects

Main Areas of Research Interest

Medical Sociology & Health Policy.
Sexual Health – especially in relation to young people.
Teenage pregnancy and parenting.
Pregnancy and chronic illness.
HIV, AIDS & STIs.

My current research interests lie in the field of health policy and medical sociology in general and more specifically in the field of sexual health: teenage pregnancy, young parenthood, cross-national sexual health and sex education policy, HIV & AIDS, pregnancy and chronic illness, more specifically diabetes and epilepsy. Since August 2005 I have been working as an independent research consultant involved in a range of research contracts and undergraduate teaching. I hope to continue researching issues relating to sexual health and pregnancy as an independent research consultant over the coming years. Currently I am working on a project with Liz Burtney evaluating a Young Parents Support Service in NMP North Horden and Easington Colliery, in County Durham.
